Head/Tail Changed
Editorial changes can result in a change to the head or tail of a shot with some regularity. For that reason, the entire clip is exported from Flame to SynthEyes originally, so that you shouldn’t have to re-write new images.
1. Open SynthEyes’s “Shot/Edit Shot” and change the “Start Frame” and “End Frame” (last frame) to the new values.
2. Extend the tracking into the new frames, by unlocking selected trackers at the beginning/end of the shot and tracking them into the new frames. (Switch the trackers to backwards and track backwards for frames added at the beginning). Be sure to have any new trackers extend into the original section of the shot; overlap is crucial.
3. Change the solver to Refine mode and update the solve to include the newly-tracked frames.
4. Shift-X to export the shot to Flame again, and “Receive from SynthEyes” in Flame.
The best approach for tracking into the new frames will depend on how many trackers and frames there are, and how predictable the shot is. You’ll probably want to increase the tracker size and search size, since those aren’t really used or set up by auto-tracking. Remember that a brand-new auto-track may not pick the same feature points that anchor the coordinate system of your shot, so just tracking into the new section is best, or deleting all except a few trackers that define your coordinate system might be another approach.
For more complex situations where you have or need a new sequence of images, you can use Shot/Change Shot Images to switch to the new imagery; it will ask you about what needs to be done, including time-shifting the animation in SynthEyes.
