Running the Planar Export Preparation Script
To ready a scene with 3-D planar trackers for export, run the Planar Export Preparation script, in the Planar Tracking subsection.
Tip : You may not need to do this if you are doing a 2- or 3-D export to After Effects. See the following sections on export to After Effects.
Note : Export Preparation is on the Scripts menu, not in the Exports section, as it is a tool, not an exporter itself.
Great Tip : To save time, you can use the Planar Tracking script bar. Control- click the Planar Options' gear icon, or use the Script/Script bars/Planar Tracking menu item. The script bar will save a lot of time!
The script will ready the selected planar 3-D trackers, so you should select the desired tracker(s) for conversion before running the script.
The script contains a fair amount of error checking for your benefit. For example, it catches trackers that have one field of view value for part of the track, and a different value for the rest, or where different trackers have different fields of view. (See Adding More 3-D Planar Trackers.)
Once you start the script, you'll have a few decisions to make. The key "Moving Camera or Moving Object?" choice is covered in the following section, and choosing a coordinate system for 3-D planar trackers in the section after that—it's much simpler than for a full 3-D solve.
You can choose how many grids you want in the 3-D mesh created for the planar tracker. By default, just for esthetics, it is twice the number in the planar tracker itself,
which makes it very visible within SynthEyes and results in accurate renders in downstream applications. You can pick any desired number.
You'll have to decide whether the SynthEyes seed tracks or solve tracks should be written by the script. This depends on how you want the planar tracks to interact with any existing or following regular 3-D solve. So it you are only doing planar tracks, this doesn't matter! If you will be doing additional known-FOV planar tracks, you can write to the seed tracks. If you want to filter the data, use the solve track.
Background: Seed tracks are made available to SynthEyes solves for potential guidance, ie the starting point of a solve using Known lens mode, or From Seed Path solving mode. Solve tracks are where the result of a 3-D solve is put; these are considered relatively transitory.
After you've run the script, you'll see the newly-created mesh(es) and any newly- created moving object(s) in the scene, and you can export using whatever 3-D export you want. Note that not all exporters support embedding 3-D meshes in the export; in that case you'll need to recreate the mesh in the application, or export it separately.
After exporting, it may be convenient to hit Undo to remove the effect of the Export Preparation script, if you want to do additional work on the planar trackers.
Or, run the Unprepare script, which will delete the added meshes and moving objects for all planar trackers in the scene.
