BCC Damaged TV

Category: BCC Stylize

Effect Name: BCC Damaged TV

The BCC Damaged TV filter, part of the BCC Stylize category, emulates the appearance of a CRT style television set that is receiving a bad antenna signal or is in need of repair. Complete with gun offset, distorted edges, image roll, noise, scan lines, and interference lines, this powerful filter features both fully automatic or manual modes of operation. When using the filter in automatic mode, the filter will automatically animate image roll, scan lines, noise or any other visible parameter โ€“ and even though the filter is being used in automatic mode, the user retains full control over every parameter.

Working with the Filter

Presets and Common Controls

  • BCC filters come with a library of factory installed presets plus the ability to create your own custom presets and preview them with the BCC FX Browserโ„ข.
  • BCC filters also include common controls that configure global effect preferences and other host-specific effect settings.

Effect Controls

Mocha Mask and Track

Continuum effects include integrated masking and matte tools that allow you to restrict the effect to specific regions of the image.

  • Mocha masks: used to create custom spline masks. Mocha also includes Matte Assist ML and Matte Refine ML, which use machine learning to generate and track masks.
  • Pixel Chooser: used to generate geometric shapes, gradients, or mattes based on channel, luma, or color-based selections. Additionally, an AI depth map generator, and an AI-powered face detection model allow for precise control of masks and mattes.

Note: Mocha can also be used to drive geometric parameters. See the Mocha Motion Tracker documentation for details.

For more information, see Mocha and Pixel Chooser.

Beat Reactor

The Beat Reactor is an audio-driven animation system that links effect parameters to an audio track. This allows visual effects to react dynamically to sound without manual key-framing.

For more information, see Beat Reactor Documentation.

  • Control Type: Determines whether the filter is set to auto or manual control.
  • Seed: Adds randomness to the phase of the effect.
  • Signal Strength: Determines the quality level of the TV antenna signal or reception.
  • Breaking Frequency: Offsets the position of the image on the screen.
  • Max Signal Threshold: Sets the maximum picture quality.
  • Min Signal Threshold: Sets the minimum picture quality.

Distorted Edge Group

  • Distorted Amount: Sets the amount of the distortion along the picture edge.
  • Edge Shapes: Selects the type of the edge distortion.
    • Noise: Sets the edge distortion to a noisy distortion.
    • Triangle: Sets the edge distortion to traingular peaks.
    • Sawtooth: Sets the edge distortion to jagged sawtooth spikes.
  • Edge Jaggedness: Determines the jaggedness along the distorted picture edge.

Degraded Color Group

  • Degraded Amount: Sets the amount of color in the image.
  • Degraded To: Sets the image color to either b/w or a tint overlay.
  • Color: Sets the color used when tinting the image.

Color Gun Offset Group

  • Red Offset: Offsets the red channel simulating red tube misalignment.
  • Green Offset: Offsets the green channel simulating green tube misalignment.
  • Blue Offset: Offsets the blue channel simulating blue tube misalignment.

Ghosting Group

  • Ghost Strength: Determines the opacity or strength of the ghost image.
  • Ghost Count: Sets the amount of ghost images.
  • Ghost Distance: Sets the offset of the ghost images from the main image.

Noise Group

  • Amount: Determines the amount of noise added to the image.
  • Size: Sets the size of the noise particles.

Lines Group

  • Strength: Sets the opacity of the lines.
  • Direction: Sets the angle of the lines.
  • Spacing: Sets the distance between each of the lines.

Scanline Control Group

  • Thickness: Determines the thickness of the horizontal scan lines.
  • Spacing: Sets the distance between each of the scanlines.
  • Smoothness: Sets the edge softness of the scanlines.
  • Alpha: Sets the opacity of the scanlines.

Miscellaneous Group

  • V-Rolling Speed: Sets the speed of the image as it rolls along the vertical axis.
  • V-Rolling Offset: Sets the offset of the image along the vertical axis.
  • H-Rolling Speed: Sets the speed of the image as it rolls along the horizontal axis.
  • H-Rolling Offset: Sets the offset of the image along the horizontal axis.
  • Interference: Sets the opacity of the horizontal picture interference lines.
  • Mix with Original: Blends the source and filtered images. Use this parameter to animate the effect from the unfiltered to the filtered image without adjusting other settings, or to reduce the effect of the filter by mixing it with the source image.
