BCC Composite
Category: BCC Key and Blend
Effect Name: BCC Composite
The BCC Composite filter, part of the BCC Key and Blend category, offers a variety of options for compositing one layer over another.
Working with the Filter
Presets and Common Controls
- BCC filters come with a library of factory installed presets plus the ability to create your own custom presets and preview them with the BCC FX Browserโข.
- BCC filters also include common controls that configure global effect preferences and other host-specific effect settings.

Mocha Mask and Track
Continuum effects include integrated masking and matte tools that allow you to restrict the effect to specific regions of the image.
- Mocha masks: used to create custom spline masks. Mocha also includes Matte Assist ML and Matte Refine ML, which use machine learning to generate and track masks.
- Pixel Chooser: used to generate geometric shapes, gradients, or mattes based on channel, luma, or color-based selections. Additionally, an AI depth map generator, and an AI-powered face detection model allow for precise control of masks and mattes.
Note: Mocha can also be used to drive geometric parameters. See the Mocha Motion Tracker documentation for details.
For more information, see Mocha and Pixel Chooser.
Compare Mode
The Compare Mode is used to view the filtered result alongside the original source layer. Several split-screen and side-by-side display options are available.
For more information, see Compare Mode.
- Mix Layer: Selects the clip or layer in the composition to composite with the source layer.
- Apply Geometrics to Mix Layer: When the Apply Geometrics to Mix Layer checkbox is off (the default), the Mix Layer is resized to the size of the source image. When this checkbox is enabled, the controls in the Mix Layer Geometrics group are applied to the mix layer before it is composited.
- Lock to Scale X: checkbox to keep the Scale X and Y values in proportion.
- Scale X: Sets the size of the source along the X axis.
- Scale Y: Sets the size of the source along the Y axis.
- Position XY: Sets the X and Y coordinates of the center point of the source.
- Position Z: Adjusts the apparent depth of the source. Decreasing negative values move the source closer to the viewer, while increasing positive values move the source farther away.
- Tumble: Moves the source around the X axis.
- Spin: Moves the source around the Y axis.
- Rotate: Moves the source around the Z axis.
- Crop: Controls crop the edges of the Mix Layer image.
- Crop Top-Left: Sets the upper left corner of the cropped image.
- Crop Bot-Right: Sets the lower right corner of the cropped image.
- Blend: Softens the edges of the image by reducing their opacity.
- Apply Mode: Determines how the source and Mix Layers are composited.
- Apply Mix: Blends the Apply Mode setting with the Mix From menu setting. The resulting mixed mode is used to composite the Mix Layer over the original source media.
- Enable Bright/Contrast: If enabled, the following Brightness and Contrast parameters are active.
- Brightness: adjusts the brightness of the composite image. Increasing positive values lighten the composite, while decreasing negative values darken the composite.
- Contrast: adjusts the contrast in the composite image. Increasing this value increases contrast, while decreasing this value decreases contrast.
- Enable Levels/Gamma: If enabled, the output will squeeze into the legal color range.
- Input Black: Sets the channel values of the input image that are treated as pure black by the filter.
- Input White: Sets the channel values of the input image that are treated as pure white by the filter.
- Gamma: Controls the slope of the curve used to convert from the input color values to output values.
- Output Black: Sets the channel value at which black source pixels are output.
- Output White: Sets the channel value at which white source pixels are output.
- Mix in Front: Mixes the Mix Layer in front of the source layer.
- Mix Behind: Mixes the chosen Mix Layer behind the source layer.
- Alpha: Determines which information is used to create the output alpha.
- Original
- Composite
- Mix Layer
- Enable Mix Back: When selected, the Mix Back and Mix Back From settings are used.
- Mix Back From: Determines which pixels are mixed.
- Slider
- PixelChooser
- Original Alpha
- Mix Back: Determines how the pixels in the source and Mix Layers are composited.
- Mix Back Min: Works in the same way as Mix Back when PixelChooser is used.
- Mix Back Max: Works in the same way as Mix Back when PixelChooser is used.
