BCC Color Choker

BCC Color Choker

Category: BCC Stylize

Effect Name: BCC Color Choker

The BCC Color Choker filter, part of the BCC Stylize category, posterizes and blurs colors in an image clip for creative and artistic results. The media clip colors that the filter is applied to can be attenuated or remapped individually through the many filter parameters or together as an RGB group. Included in the filter is a checkbox control to convert image to monochrome before applying the built in color blur or choke.

Working with the Filter

Presets and Common Controls

  • BCC filters come with a library of factory installed presets plus the ability to create your own custom presets and preview them with the BCC FX Browserโ„ข.
  • BCC filters also include common controls that configure global effect preferences and other host-specific effect settings.

Effect Controls

Mocha Mask and Track

Continuum effects include integrated masking and matte tools that allow you to restrict the effect to specific regions of the image.

  • Mocha masks: used to create custom spline masks. Mocha also includes Matte Assist ML and Matte Refine ML, which use machine learning to generate and track masks.
  • Pixel Chooser: used to generate geometric shapes, gradients, or mattes based on channel, luma, or color-based selections. Additionally, an AI depth map generator, and an AI-powered face detection model allow for precise control of masks and mattes.

Note: Mocha can also be used to drive geometric parameters. See the Mocha Motion Tracker documentation for details.

For more information, see Mocha and Pixel Chooser.

Compare Mode

The Compare Mode is used to view the filtered result alongside the original source layer. Several split-screen and side-by-side display options are available.

For more information, see Compare Mode.

  • Monochrome: Converts the image to grayscale.
  • Color Remapping: Toggles remapping RGB channels to a specific color.
  • Remap Mixing: Determines the apply modes for the remapping function.
  • View: Displays each color channel independently.
  • Lock Levels to Red: Locks the green and blue levels to the red level setting.
  • Lock Chokes to Red: Locks the green and blue chokes to the red choke setting.
  • Red Intensity: Sets the intensity of the red channel.
  • Remap Red to: Remaps the red channel to a user selected color.
  • Input Black: Sets the black level of the red channel prior to choking.
  • Input White: Sets the white level of the red channel prior to choking.
  • Red Choke 1: Sets the amount of choke 1 applied to the red channel.
  • Red Choke 2: Sets the amount of choke 2 applied to the red channel.
  • Red Choke Mode: Determines how the choke parameters are used.
    • Choke 1: Uses the choke 1 value and ignores the choke 2 value.
    • Mix: Blends the two choke values.
    • Difference: Uses the difference between the two chokes.
    • Subtract Difference: Uses the difference between the original image and the two chokes.
    • Choke 2: Uses the choke 2 value and ignores the choke 1 value.
    • Off: Disables the controls for the red channel.
  • Red Post Blur: Blurs the red channel after any adjustments are made.
  • Green Intensity: Sets the intensity of the green channel.
  • Remap Green to: Remaps the green channel to a user selected color.

  • Green Choke 2: Sets the amount of choke 2 applied to the green channel.
  • Green Choke Mode: Determines how the choke parameters are used.
  • Green Post Blur: Blurs the green channel after any adjustments are made.

Blue Group

  • Blue Input Black: Sets the black level of the blue channel prior to choking.
  • Blue Input White: Sets the white level of the blue channel prior to choking.
  • Blue Choke 1: Sets the amount of choke 1 applied to the blue channel.
  • Blue Choke 2: Sets the amount of choke 2 applied to the blue channel.
  • Blue Choke Mode: Determines how the choke parameters are used.
    • Blue Post Blur: Blurs the blue channel after any adjustments are made.
    • Mix with Original: Blends the source and filtered images. Use this parameter to animate the effect from the unfiltered to the filtered image without adjusting other settings, or to reduce the effect of the filter by mixing it with the source image.
