Surface Effects
Secondary surface deformations often occur in 2D, tangent to the surface. Use Surface Lasso or Paint modes, which lasso or paint vertices on the surface into the new object, computing a centroid on the surface, and making the new GeoH object's pivot parallel and perpendicular to the surface.
Note: For a full understanding of what's happening when vertices are assigned to GeoH objects, you'll have to wait for Deformation Control Layers.
