Flatten Path (Edit)
Modifies a shot so that the camera or object track has a "flat" section where the camera or object is stationary, with blends in and out for smooth transitions. This can be used when camera or object stops for a portion of the shot, and you wish to have a precisely stationary solve during that time. Note that this phase does not affect the rotation!
The begin/end frames give the beginning and end of the section where the camera/object is stationary. The position is averaged over that range of frames to find the stationary position—unless the Automatic checkbox is off, in which case the phase's Manual X/Y/Z values are used (if you already have values you want used).
The path is blended in and out over the number of frames specified at the beginning/end of the flatten frame range. These blend regions are INSIDE the blend frame range. You should keep the blend frame count at zero if the flatten frame range extends to the beginning or end of the shot—otherwise you will see a few noisier frames at the beginning or end.
If you do a subsequent solve cycle, the modified path will be re-optimized, eliminating the flat section. To prevent that, you can lock the path. Use the "Solver Locks?" selector to create position path locks. Your options for the solver locks are as follows: leave them unchanged, add the position locks lasting exactly during the flatten region, or add a position lock for the entire shot. In any case, rotation locks are unaffected.
