Use Masks As Input Sources And Drivers Of Filters
Masks can be assigned as inputs to a filter’s optional image or mask input, allowing the effect to respond more naturally than traditional post-effect masking. The example below demonstrates how to assign a mask to the Depth of Field > Depth input.
Depth of Field
1 Apply Depth of Field from the Diffusion/Blurs category.
2 Add a Depth Map ML mask to the layer and adjust its controls.
3 To use the mask as the depth source:
• Change Depth > Depth to Input.
• Right-click on the mask, select Use as input and choose Depth.

The mask is now used as the Depth of Field > Depth Input. Once assigned, an arrow icon appears in the mask’s lower-right corner to indicate its input status.
4 Adjust the Blur.
The amount of blurring is directly proportionate to the luminance of the depth source creating a natural depth of field effect.
