Text has been mapped to the surface of a sphere. Note as the shape rotates away from the camera that sphere is in fact a 3 dimensional object. As it intersects with the plane, the differing opacities of the text's stroke and fill are seen in the shadows cast on the plane. The plane draws the scene to a close: it blocks the light as it comes forward, fading the scene to black.
